I've always been ambitious. In my education, career, and personal life I strive to be the best I can be. When I was young, I moved across the country from Alaska to Virginia. It was an enormous culture shock, but growing up in the City of Alexandria provided me with a wealth of opportunity I never could have imagined as a child in Anchorage. The proximity to Washington, D.C. allowed me to make connections and gain the experience I needed to find my niche in the world. I thought a lot about the next few years and how I wanted to spend them, and I made the decision to explore the city a bit before I finished school. I took two internships on Capitol Hill - first in the House, then in the Senate - where I worked occasionally as a tour guide in the Capitol Building. But there were problems. The tours were too rushed, too crowded, and too...boring. There had to be a better way. So I began thinking about how I could combine today's technology with yesterday's history to give visitors a more thorough (and interesting) look at the Capitol. I took a risk, and the idea for CapApp was born. I was going to develop a mobile education app to improve the tourist experience. Users could take a virtual tour, customize the content on their screens, and explore the information that has been lost to a live tour over time. But getting the app off the paper and into the virtual market is challenging. Development is expensive. It takes a lot of time and effort. And perhaps the biggest challenge of all is the lack of diversity in the tech industry. That's something I want to change. CapApp benefits the public by improving the tour experience, of course. But it also serves to inspire young men and women from all walks of life to follow through on their ideas and pursue their dreams. I'm so grateful that you've decided to grow with us, just by reading this far, and I want to welcome you into the CapApp family.
